This one took a bit of effort and leg-work. Yeah. My bookshelves kind of expanded from my bedroom to my brother’s room, to the study, and–for the sturdier and not-so-favorite books–to the den. My book collecting’s been less frequent the past few years because my library system is fabulous and I borrow from the local library constantly, but I do plan on expanding a few more authors at some point.

Top Ten Authors I Own the Most Books of

26 Tamora Pierce – All of the Tortall series to date (including her short story collection), an extra hardcover copy of Song of the Lioness, and the first of the Circle series.

25 Carolyn Keene – An assortment of  the Nancy Drew and one crossover Nancy Drew with Hardy Boys Titanic special. Kind of counts, right? Nevermind Carolyn Keene is a pseudonym for several ghostwriters of the series.

22 R.L. Stine – When girls were reading Babysitters Club and Sweet Valley (don’t get me wrong, I have some of these books, too!), I was more or less rocking it out to Goosebumps. Somehow I always kept dying at the CYOA books…

12 J.K. Rowling – Duh. I have the entire series, plus FB and QTTA (and at some point The Tales of Beedle the Bard, but I gave that to my goddaughter), as well as an extra paperback and a Hungarian hardcover copy of the first book (don’t ask). I also have an e-book copy of Cuckoo’s Calling, under her pseudonym, Robert Galbraith.

10 Emily Rodda – I was a big fan of the Deltora Quest series in high school, so I have the first series of eight books, plus the first two of Dragons of Deltora.

9 Eoin Colfer – Artemis Fowl! This one was my sister’s fault. I think there are seven books from the Artemis Fowl series, along with The Wish List and Half Moon Investigations.

8 Garth Nix – I meant to finish collecting Keys to the Kingdom, but I’m still missing two more books. I do have Sabriel and two of the Seventh Tower books, and at some point I plan to finish the Abhorsen collection.

7 Terry Pratchett – Including five of Discworld (The TruthMoving PicturesNight WatchRaising SteamJingo), Good Omens (a Gaiman-Pratchett collaboration), and a book of Discworld art (which kind of counts, though it wasn’t Pratchett who drew the stuff).

6 J.R.R. Tolkien – The Lord of the Rings trilogy, The HobbitThe Silmarillion, and Unfinished Tales. I haven’t finished Silmarillion, and haven’t read Unfinished Tales yet.

6 Lindsey Davis – It seems to be getting harder to find older copies of Davis’ Falco series, but I am bent on acquiring them all.

shelves
Note: I took a picture of my bedroom shelves a couple years back. Nowadays, they are brimming with even more books and are no longer this neat (if you can call my shelves neat, anyway).

On a similar note, my sister and I collected a ton of manga/graphic novels back in the day. If I counted them, they would undoubtedly take up a majority of the top ten list above. But since I didn’t, I’ll just list them as Honorable Mentions:

  • CLAMP (20 MaskAngelic LayerCardcaptor SakuraCLAMP School DetectivesMagic Knight RayearthWish, most of X/1999, some of XXXHolic, and several artbooks)
  • Kaori Yuki (Godchild, most of Angel Sanctuary)
  • Judal (Vampire Game)
  • Rumiko Takahashi (some of InuYasha)
  • Nobuhiro Watsuki (Rurouni Kenshin)

  1. What if you have all the books of an author, but they haven’t written that much yet? Would that count in a percentage of books rather than sheer number? Of the authors you list, I’ve four of them with enough books that they take up book shelf space! Now maybe I will look/see what my library (bless libraries!) has of the ones I don’t recognize. 🙂

    1. I thought about including books of authors I really loved and am meaning to buy more of (I know Scott Westerfeld, Brandon Sanderson, and Patricia C. Wrede fall in that list, among other folks). And then there are other authors I adore who have only come out with some 3-5 books so far, so there’s that.

Maybe I should do a percentage list at some point…that might be interesting to look at statistically.

    1. A bunch of these authors got introduced to me when I was a wee lass, which is probably why I have quite a collection.

      Thanks for stopping by!

  2. I have some Pierce books, but I read a bunch of them from the library, and have some more as ebooks, so it hasn’t quite reached my top ten in numbers.

R.L. Stine was a big part of my childhood reading, too. I always miscounted on those CYOA ones, and ended up stuck in loops, or skipping around in a way that made no sense.

    1. Yes! Those CYOAs tended to send me to my doom pretty often, and sometimes I’d forget which page I made my choices when I backtracked. Silly things.

    1. I actually haven’t. Like you, the first Circle series didn’t hit it off for me, though Briar’s Book was certainly different and interesting, and I kind of like Tris’ story as well. I might try the later series at some point, but with TP coming out with another Tortall book (hopefully) this fall, the Circle can wait.
