I realize some of these will completel overlap with my favorite books of 2015, but in my defense, all these authors wrote awesomely and I’m glad I picked their books up when I did.

Top Ten New-To-Me Favorite Authors I Read For The First Time In 2015

J.D. Robb a.k.a. Nora Roberts (In Death Series) – Haven’t read a Nora Roberts book beforehand, but at the recommendation of a friend, I had to pick her detective romance novels. I loved the first one, and the second was great, too, so I’m definitely on the Nora Roberts wagon.

V.E. Schwab (A Darker Shade of Magic) – Been meaning to read this author since I’d heard so many good things about A Darker Shade of Magic. The opportunity came a’knockin’ when I got a free audiobook of the novel. I absolutely loved it. I cannot wait for book two of ADSoM.

Peter V. Brett (The Warded Man) – I don’t know why I haven’t picked up The Desert Spear yet (it’s on my shelf, honestly), because I’ve read a short story of Brett’s and I loved The Warded Man. Awesome stuff.

Brian K. Vaughan (Saga) – The Saga comic series has been slaying me all of this month and last month. Vaughn is definitely on my list of writers to read more from.

Rainbow Rowell (Carry On) – I might have squeed enough about this book the past week or so. Needless to say I’m a Rainbow Rowell convert and plan to read more of her stuff when I can.

Leigh Bardugo (Shadow and Bone) – Also a Leigh Bardugo convert. I’m hearing great reviews over Six of Crows, which seems to continue on in the Grisha world. I loved Shadow and Bone already, so there’s that.

Cherie Priest (Boneshaker) – Finally read a Cherie Priest novel! I’m actually interested in a few of her other non-Clockwork Century novels, so depending on what I get my hands on, I might try something else other than the world that made Boneshaker so awesome.

Veronica Roth (Divergent) – I have a love/hate relationship with Veronica Roth and her Divergent trilogy. That’s all.

Ransom Riggs (Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children) – The book had me entertained, even when I had completely different expectations of his book. I enjoyed the graphic novel adaptation almost as much, and I will so watch the shmat out of the film if/when it comes out.

Marissa Meyer (Cinder) – I also have a love/hate relationship with Marissa Meyer and her Lunar Chronicles books. Mostly because I’ve still got Scarlet unread and I’m still annoyed at the cliffhanger ending of Cinder. But I’ll stop being salty now and actually read Scarlet…after two more books on my TBR list…

  1. Today’s post has really brought to my attention all the authors whose books I’ve been wanting to read but just haven’t, like Leigh Bardugo and Ransom Riggs. Rainbow Rowell made my list this week too, though. And I read Cinder years ago, but still haven’t read Scarlet. I don’t really know why. I liked it well enough. I just thought your reaction was funny! Great list!

  2. I didn’t know J.D. Robbs mysteries were romance/mysteries which makes me want to read them more (and makes sense since she is also Nora Roberts). Glad you found your way to Leigh Bardugo – she’s lovely! I got the A Darker Shade of Magic audio for free as well (prob. through the same giveaway) but haven’t had a chance to read yet so Schwab is high on my list to get acquainted with next year.

    1. The ADSoM audio was definitely worth the listen. I have a paperback copy of the book now too, since I loved it so much, haha. And yeah, the In Death series was equal parts romance and crime. Good stuff, really.

  3. Yes! You should read Scarlet soon, it gets even better 🙂 I can’t wait to read Six of Crows either, and it’s apparently better than the Grisha trilogy, which I really loved. Haha, I like how you rate books with cookies 😀
