TTT: Reading Slumps

Boy, reading slumps are the worst. And I’ve had my fair share of them. All the same, it is a great relief when I find a book that takes me out of a reading slump, and some of these really helped me the past few years.

Top Ten Books that Got Me Out of a Reading Slump

Cinder by Marissa Meyer – As predictable as it was, this book actually perked me up enough that I wanted to read the rest of the series in quick order. Which I didn’t…because Winter wasn’t out when I finished Cress, so it took me a while to finish the series, but it was SO GOOD.

Sabriel by Garth Nix – Whenever I have a fantasy lull, I always go back to rereading Sabriel. It’s just natural.

Uprooted by Naomi Novik – I will admit, when I started reading ARCs I always got into a slump (mostly because I started finding Netgalley a chore). Then Uprooted happened, and boy, that got me out of a reading slump so fast.

The Girl in the Tower by Katherine Arden – This was definitely one of the books that got me out of a dry-reading spell this year. Enough that I’m catching up to my reading goal this year!

A Conjuring of Light by V.E. Schwab – Okay. The Shades of Magic was a double-edged sword. On the one hand, it got me reading voraciously, but once done, I crashed into a reading hangover that it was really hard to come back out of it. Up until I re-read the books again and the cycle just kept happening!

Days of Blood and Starlight by Laini Taylor – Which led me to this book, which actually tore me OUT of the book hangover dealt by ACoL. (I love you Schwab really!)

Bone Crossed by Patricia Briggs – Briggs always gets me out of a slump. Keep these Mercy Thompson books coming, pleasethanks!

The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon – Another surprise as far as book slumps went.

Carry On by Rainbow Rowell – I remember being a little behind on my reading goal the year I read Carry On. The minute I finished, I ended up reading several more books afterwards, two of which were Rowell books.

The Way of Shadows by Brent Weeks – Again, another go-to for one of my high/epic fantasy lulls. I must have read TWoS so many times by now, I’m surprised I haven’t gone to pick up his other series yet.

How about you? What books normally pull you out of reading slumps?

    1. If anything, I liked Girl in the Tower a bit better! I’m a sucker for romance, though, and there’s more of that and another Russian fairy tale added into it. I hope you enjoy the book as well!
