Mini Reviews: Practical Magic, The Better Angels of Our Nature

Got a couple more reviews to round out the year! Wasn’t truly wowed by either book, but I think most of that had to do with the fact that these were out of my comfort zone. Can’t say I regretted reading them, but I just wasn’t as keen about them.

The first book, Practical Magic, was something I wanted to read because I absolutely loved the film. I mean, there’s no denying the charm in strong and modern witch-women and dancing around making midnight margaritas. (Also, I do love Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock as the Owens sisters.)

They put the lime in the coconut!

Turns out I’m still not a fan of magical realism. I tried, though.

The second book is also not something I typically read, but it was still interesting to see how Pinker argued his thesis of “there’s been less violence today than in the past.”

Have you read either of these books? What did you think?
