Oh, boy. If I could step into many character shoes, I totally would, and this isn’t a list of all females, either (though let’s be honest…why play a dude when you can have so much more fun playing a girl?!). That being said, there are always reasons to get out of your head and into someone else’s, right?

Anyway, in no particular order…

Ten Characters I’d Like To Switch Places With

Emika Chen (Warcross by Marie Lu) – If I’m going to be living in the foreseeable future, with a VR environment like Tokyo, I’d want to be Emika right there and then. Rainbow hair, crazy hacking skills, and some kind of millionaire hot boy magnet, I wouldn’t mind one bit. Even if there is a danger to be had…

June (Vengeful by V.E. Schwab) – Personally, I would have loved to be in Marcella Riggins’ shoes, and as a character, I wasn’t a big fan of June. But ya know, if you want low-key risk, and high-end powers, June’s EO ability is pretty badass. Plus, it’d be fun playing a modern hitwoman. Erm.

Feyre Archeron (A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas) – LOOK, JUDGE ME ALL YOU WANT BUT WHO DOESN’T WANT TO BE HIGH LADY OF THE NIGHT COURT AND SHAG THE HIGH LORD OF THE NIGHT? Come on, now, be realistic.

Tzain (Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi) – In any normal circumstance (hah, what is normal?!) I’d be Zelie any number of days and on weekends, too. But it’s too much pressure, trying to resurrect magic from the world. I wouldn’t want to be a queen in Orisha, either. So I’m settling for Team Boomerang. Because Tzain gets the adventure and less heartbreak.

Zoya Nazyalensky (Ruin and Rising by Leigh Bardugo) – I don’t think I could ever play Zoya the way Zoya plays Zoya, but her sass is the bees’ knees. She’s also a powerful Grisha, and honestly, if I had to live in the Grishaverse, OF COURSE I’m going to want to have powers.

Alianne Cooper (Trickster’s Queen by Tamora Pierce) – Hah, living as the King’s Champion might actually beat living in a world as her daughter, but I would get the added benefit of being taught by the ever-secretive Whisper Man. It’s a great lineage, this.

Morozko (The Winter of the Witch by Katherine Arden) – Who needs to ally herself with the Frost King when you can BECOME the Frost King? Is there any other reason to want to be Morozko, king of winter and death?

Astrid Leong (Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan) – Not gonna lie, I probably would enjoy being Astrid Leong post-Michael days. Can you imagine living in constant couture, jet-setting between countries for willy nilly, and then settling in Paris during Fashion Week? Hell, the travel alone would be worth it.

Rylin (The Thousandth Floor by Katharine McGee) – Hah, because if we’re going to go and face drama in The Thousandth Floor, we might as well be the Cinderella with a promising future. Minus the blackmail and shit.

Marguerite Caine (A Thousand Pieces of You by Claudia Gray) – Let me make this clear, I’d love to switch places with Marguerite when she’s the Russian princess in some other parallel universe. I’m not so sure I care about her life as the main character when somewhere in an alternate dimension, she’s speaking with a Russian accent and almost living the high life.

Did you have any characters you’d switch places with?
