Reading Challenges 2017

Reading Challenges 2017

So I thought I did pretty well in 2016 as far as the two reading challenges went. Last year, I took part in Flights of Fantasy and the Fairy Tale Retelling reading challenges. I'd challenged myself to do 30 books in fantasy and 10 books in fairy tales, and I surpassed both, so yay for [...]

Review: Outlander by Diana Gabaldon

Review: Outlander by Diana Gabaldon

Honestly, I don't think I would have enjoyed this book as much as I did if I hadn't switched out the actual book for the audiobook version. And I'll also admit that the Starz series made it even better, because Scottish brogue and visuals help when it comes to Jamie Fraser. I mean, um. Yeah. [...]

Review: Assassin’s Apprentice by Robin Hobb

I seem to like starting my years with assassin books. Actually, you know what, I usually can't pass up assassin books. 'Cause there's nothing like bringing in the new year with a bit of death and destruction. Yeah. But seriously, it's only taken me forever to get to this series, and I'm not even sure [...]

Bookish Resolutions: Reading Challenges

Bookish Resolutions: Reading Challenges

So I miserably failed both the reading challenges I set up for myself in 2015. I swear there were years where I made resolutions (to write more, get published, get a job, read more, continue blogging, etc.), and actually managed to get through them. For some reason, it's always the reading that's been hardest. Silver [...]

Review: Boneshaker by Cherie Priest

Review: Boneshaker by Cherie Priest

Okay. I knew, going into the book, that it was a steampunk book mostly because I'd heard of Cherie Priest from the steampunk-lit circle. I knew, going into the book, that the book took place in Seattle during the American Civil War, which was an interesting prospect altogether. What I had not expected were the [...]

Mari-with-an-I prefers her fantasies drenched in oil and fried up in faerie, but when that’s not the case, she’ll read it anyway. She likes writing what she reads, and likes baking while she writes. She’s written a few things for anthologies, including an anthology that got translated into Czech (I know, right?! Eeeeee!), and if you haven’t read them yet, she urges you to do so! Who knows, there might be a few cookies waiting for you at the end of the read.

…Or not. (Blast her pet steampoctopus for eating them all!)

4 cookies = Book was great and certainly worth the read.

3 cookies = Book was good but I expected better.

2 cookies = Meh.

1 cookie = Why did I even bother?!

January book wrapup! Loving the new style for this year's reading journal. Might change how I do the book summaries tho. With grad school happening during the month, six books isn't bad!
Daughter of the Moon Goddess was my first @fairyloot subscription, and ever since then, I've been obsessed by their special edition books. I'm glad I got to snag the second book of this duology! #daughterofthemoongoddess #heartofthesunwarrior #suelynntann #fairyloot #specialedition #books #bookstagram
