I've been greatly neglecting many things, including this poor blog, but here I am, coming from the woodwork on this chilly--but lovely--Easter morn to talk about food that I ended up making out of the fiction I've been reading! So I finished Lore by Alexandra Bracken some days ago, and I would be remiss if [...]

Talk about taking a bake I normally do as a full pie and improvising upon it... tl;dr (click for the apple pie recipe) (click for the pie crust recipe) They had laid on a feast more befitting a festival than a midday meeting. There was stewed mutton with onions and ginger, stuffed eels in spiced [...]

tl;dr (click for the Sweet Potato Cakes recipe) Now that the holidays are over, I can finally go back to not binge-baking and doing things like making book-inspired foods! I mean, it's good reason to be varying what I'm eating. I've gotten into the habit of making my own meals on a regular basis, though [...]

Food and Fandom: Suika Cookies

It's been quite the year, to have disappeared from blogging and reading for such a long time. I wish I could blame it all on the crazy that's been happening worldwide and thensome, but I also did a lot of moving this year, so for a few weeks, I didn't even have any of my [...]

Ah boy, I haven't been in a food and fandom kick since my birthday, and we really need to fix that! Thankfully, I found the right kind of inspiration. Without fail, I've managed to do at least one dish from each of Katherine Arden's Winternight Trilogy, and for good reason! (See my food and fandom posts [...]

Mari-with-an-I prefers her fantasies drenched in oil and fried up in faerie, but when that’s not the case, she’ll read it anyway. She likes writing what she reads, and likes baking while she writes. She’s written a few things for anthologies, including an anthology that got translated into Czech (I know, right?! Eeeeee!), and if you haven’t read them yet, she urges you to do so! Who knows, there might be a few cookies waiting for you at the end of the read.

…Or not. (Blast her pet steampoctopus for eating them all!)

Reading Ratings (in Cookies)

5 cookies = Book was so deliciously awesome that I couldn't put it down or get it out of my mind for a while.

4 cookies = Book was great and certainly worth the read.

3 cookies = Book was good but I expected better.

2 cookies = Meh.

1 cookie = Why did I even bother?!
