Writing Wednesdays #5: Continued Narration

This might possibly be one of the latest posts I've ever done, but it wouldn't be a Writing Wednesday if I had it scheduled for the next day. Gods, no. All the same, I did just get back and I wanted to enumerate the lovely things I did with my little voldies. Today we decided [...]

Writing Wednesdays #4: Retellings

Writing Wednesdays #4: Retellings

On Wednesdays I put my writing cap on. You know, the more age-appropriate one that tries not to curse or come up with morbid ways to end my characters. Nevermind that the eighth graders in my writing workshop are crazier than I am, but you know. Kids. They have the darnedest imaginations. This week, Jacob [...]

I think Lan goes into bouts of inner thoughts more often than Eirika. I suppose that can't be helped, as they are two different viewpoints altogether. All the same, there isn't much action in the first chapter with him, though I suppose with all of the action being packed into Eirika's first chapter, this couldn't [...]

More Lan goodness! His POV is a little different from Eirika's mainly because she's my action girl, and Lan is the type of guy who thinks his feelings through. Here, we see a bit of what drives Lan emotionally--or at least, we get a bit of background to his melancholy. Previous excerpt can be found HERE. [...]

Writing Wednesdays #2: Similes and Metaphors

Writing Wednesdays #2: Similes and Metaphors

Today my writing voldies explored the nuances of similes and metaphors (which, by the way, can be explained simply by this most righteous music video). To further induct them into figurative language, I gave them examples from the mistress of similes and metaphors: my girl Taylor Swift. You laugh at this. They laughed at this. [...]

Mari

Mari-with-an-I prefers her fantasies drenched in oil and fried up in faerie, but when that’s not the case, she’ll read it anyway. She likes writing what she reads, and likes baking while she writes. She’s written a few things for anthologies, including an anthology that got translated into Czech (I know, right?! Eeeeee!), and if you haven’t read them yet, she urges you to do so! Who knows, there might be a few cookies waiting for you at the end of the read.

…Or not. (Blast her pet steampoctopus for eating them all!)

5 cookies = Book was so deliciously awesome that I couldn't put it down or get it out of my mind for a while.

4 cookies = Book was great and certainly worth the read.

3 cookies = Book was good but I expected better.

2 cookies = Meh.

1 cookie = Why did I even bother?!
